2015 NFL Playoffs Predictions AFC: Patriots Broncos, Manning Brady

I may be rooting for a Peyton Manning vs Tom Brady rematch. It's pretty much my favorite thing about the AFC. The New England Patriots are a symbol of consistency and losing to the New York Giants in the Super Bowl, while the Denver Broncos have reloaded in the past couple years. The first round is full of exciting match ups, including one of the best rivalries in football between the Baltimore Ravens and Pittsburgh Steelers.

6. Baltimore Ravens OVER 3. Pittsburgh Steelers

It's hard to cast off a championship pedigree like that of the Ravens, but this is a completely different team. The defense is younger and not nearly as dominant and Joe Flacco doesn't have any weapons on the outside. The Steelers have been one of the best teams at home this year. Big Ben has been great at home... but with Le'Veon Bell I don't see how Pittsburgh can keep that balanced attack going. This is going to be a low-scoring, grinding, tough game. I lean to the Ravens with Bell's injury, but we're low confidence here at best.

4. Indianapolis Colts OVER 5. Cincinnati Bengals

Andy Dalton, on the road, in the playoffs. The Indianapolis Colts have a high-powered offense and should be able to run away with this one at home. I don't think either team has much of a shot at advancing too far in the playoffs, but the Colts and Andrew Luck have too many weapons.

Divisional Round

1. New England Patriots OVER 6. Baltimore Ravens

The Patriots may be the most complete team in the AFC, and the Ravens don't have enough. The Baltimore Ravens have a decent run game but I don't think they'll move the ball. The Patriots will be prepared here, rested off their bye, and ready. I like them to win at home against whoever their opponent.

Patriots 31 - Ravens 16

2. Denver Broncos OVER 4. Indianapolis Colts

The Colts have enough offense to go toe-to-toe with the Broncos, but they're also going to have to deal with an incredibly balanced Denver attack. Peyton Manning has matured a little this year, running the ball effectively down the stretch and controlling the game. The Broncos defense will be the difference here, with a strong pass rush that tips the scales in their favor.

AFC CHampionship

2. Denver Broncos OVER 1. New England Patriots

I'll be honest, this is mostly because I picked Broncos Seahawks before the season started and don't want to retract it. I can see the Broncos finding a way on the road. The Patriots have been incredible down the stretch and Manning struggles on the road in these match ups, but I like Denver to get back to the Super Bowl in 2015.

2015 NFL Playoffs Predictions: Seattle Seahawks our NFC Championship Pick

The Seattle Seahawks have a fairly easy road to the conference championship, and once there I don’t see any real threats to the throne. The Dallas Cowboys have had an excellent season and beat Seattle in Seattle, but they have to get through the Lions and Packers first. Green Bay played scared against the Seahawks. Maybe assuming the Seahawks run right into the final is in poor taste, but will the Cardinals really find a way to win without their quarterback? In fact, I’ve got the Carolina Panthers winning in the first round with a losing regular season record. Let’s get into our NFC picks for this edition of our 2015 NFL Playoffs Predictions.

Wild Card Round

3. Dallas Cowboys OVER 6. Detroit Lions

The Detroit Lions will have Ndomukong Suh back after he won his suspension appeal, but I think that will just light a fire under the best offensive line in football. The Dallas Cowboys are built to beat teams like the Lions. They have a balanced offense with weapons all over the field, and they have the offensive line to control this game the entire way. I don’t think the Lions know how to win the big game. If DeMarco Murray is able to play close to 100%, the Dallas Cowboys will win this game on home field. Even if he isn’t effective, Tony Romo has been dominant lately, deserving all of his MVP talk.

Cowboys 31 – Lions 21

4. Carolina Panthers OVER 5. Arizona Cardinals

The Arizona Cardinals don’t have a quarterback. They have an elite defense and may dominate that side of the ball, but the Cards are not going to be able to move the ball in Carolina. The Panthers finished the year hot to steal the division from the Falcons and Saints. I don’t necessarily believe in Jonathan Stewart or Cam Newton, and I could see this game going either way. Low confidence, but would you rather have a burning hot Panthers team led by Newton or a cold Cardinals team led by… whoever is under center this week?

Panthers 17 – Cardinals 9

Divisional Round

1. Seattle Seahawks OVER 4. Carolina Panthers

The Panthers have had a nice run, but the Seattle Seahawks are the best team in the NFC right now. They’ll be able to run and throw on this Panthers defense, while the limited weapons of the Carolina Panthers stumble under the pressure of the 12th man in Seattle. I don’t think the Panthers have a chance.

Seahawks 38 – Panthers 17

2. Green Bay Packers OVER 3. Dallas Cowboys

Tony Romo, in the cold, on the road. I know he’s put some of his December struggles behind him, but I can’t imagine him having a good game at Lambeau with everything on the line. The Packers aren’t exactly a balanced offense, but I take Aaron Rodgers in this matchup all day. Dallas will need to run the ball effectively and keep the Packers from running away with it early. I just don’t think the Cowboys will keep pace on the road.

Packers 30 – Cowboys 24

NFC Championship

1. Seattle Seahawks OVER 2. Green Bay Packers

All chalk, but this is about match ups. The Green Bay Packers may have learned from their “half the field” approach to Richard Sherman, but I don’t think it matters. They played the first matchup this year scared and they don’t match up well with the Seattle Seahawks. A mobile playmaker quarterback, a bruising running back, and the top secondary in football. Green Bay doesn’t run the ball well in these situations, and in Seattle they’re in for a tough game. Seattle will be fresh following a bye and an inferior opponent in their only playoff game. I think the Seahawks have an easy route to another Super Bowl appearance and it’s their NFC Championship to lose.

NFL Picks: Monday Night Football - Denver Broncos (-3) at Cincinnati Bengals

We got in early and saved ourselves half a point here, but got in early on the Steelers and cost ourselves a half point. Everything balanced out and, either way, my system in the VIP Picks forum is 1-0 coming into Monday Night, and we can't lose money but we can almost double up here.

The Bengals have a lot to play for, but they're a volatile bunch. I don't trust them, and inconsistencies at quarterback and sloppy play has made them a borderline playoff team instead of the runaway divisional champion we thought they could be.

The Denver Broncos are in line for a shot at a top seed and a bye week if they can run the table. They're the most

consistent team in the NFL in my opinion, and they've found a running game. I think
they've got an edge here.

The better team, buying the hook, looks like the play to me.

NHL Picks: Dallas Stars at Edmonton Oilers

Only one play in the system for NHL picks today. The Edmonton Oilers are on an epic slide this month, and seem poised to never win another game again. On home ice, they look to snap their streak against a Dallas Stars team that is heating up.

I’m nervous about this one because the line seems to be baiting us into a wager on the Stars and I feel like the Oilers can’t lose forever. Dallas is a mediocre team on a nice run, but I’m not sure they’re completely reliable.

Still, when the stars align, it’s hard to stay away from this one. We’re on the Stars today, but with tempered expectations.

The computer is hesitant too, giving a 99% chance that the Oilers +1.5 line hits. I still like the Stars ML better, but I expect a tight game as well.

NBA Picks: Houston Rockets at Denver Nuggets

The Denver Nuggets seem lost lately while the Houston Rockets have played excellent basketball. The computer shows a little conflict, expecting the Nuggets to win in a coin flip while the Rockets have 3-star value. Still, the way Houston is playing, they seem to be the play.

The Nuggets have been really struggling and the rebuilding effort seems to have slipped away after trading Carmelo Anthony to the Knicks. The Rockets, on the other hand, have been scoring machines. They may lack some depth and will to play defense, but in a high scoring game against another team that plays no defense, I expect their talent to win out.

The computer and I are also in agreement that over 206 is the play here. There is a high probability that the game goes over, especially with two great offenses playing no defense against each other.
